Sherry Provides MBA Immersive Learning Experience

This spring semester (2011), Sherry’s Food and Microbiology division launched a new partnership with Ball State University’s MBA program to build a marketing plan for the division’s national expansion into the Salmonella Enteritidis (SE) testing service line. Over the course of the spring semester, the student teams conduct research, deliver a market analysis and recommend a marketing plan. The student teams will meet periodically with Sherry team members for guidance and discussion, and commence with a presentation of their findings and recommendations.
“Utilizing these talented MBA students is a great way to accelerate our progress in our Food & Micro Division. It gives us a fresh look at the opportunity plus additional resources,” said Michael Earley, President – Environmental and Microbiology.
Not only is there great opportunity for Sherry to benefit from the immersive learning project, but partnerships such as this help provide educational opportunities to college students by providing real-world experience. Dr. Scott Inks, Associate Professor of Marketing, teaches the MBA marketing class. “The immersive learning experience with Sherry Labs provides our students the opportunity to augment what they are learning in the classroom with real-world application. These opportunities bring the learning to life and make each semester a unique learning experience. Students typically derive tremendous satisfaction from working on and completing a project that they know will be utilized and valued by an organization. The learning partnership with Sherry Labs is an outstanding example of how universities and business organizations can help each other learn and compete in the 21st century.”
Partnerships like this immersive learning project are an external function of Sherry University, solidifying Sherry’s commitment to creating an environment that is world class in education and training, both internally and externally.
